Our Most Asked Questions About Self-Tanning...ANSWERED!

Self-tanning can be a great way to get a natural-looking tan without exposing your skin to the damaging effects of the sun. However, it can also be intimidating if you're not sure how to do it correctly. That's why we've put together a list of answers to some of our most commonly asked questions about self-tanning.

1. HOW DO I APPLY SELF-TANNER EVENLY?

To apply self-tanner evenly, start by exfoliating your skin to remove any dead cells that might cause patchiness. Then, apply a thin layer of self-tanner using a mitt to help distribute the product evenly. Be sure to pay extra attention to areas like your knees, elbows, and ankles, as these tend to be drier and may absorb more self-tanner. It can be helpful to apply a very thin layer of moisturizer to dry areas before tanning. But don't overdo it, moisturizer can also prevent the self-tan from attaching to the skin and developing evenly. Finally, blend the product into your skin using circular motions, and allow it to dry completely before getting dressed.

2. HOW LONG SHOULD I WAIT BEFORE SHOWERING AFTER APPLYING SELF-TANNER?

Peta Jane Beauty self-tanners will require you to wait at least 6-8 hours before showering or getting wet, as this is how long it takes for the product to fully develop on your skin. Additionally we highly recommend avoiding any vigorous activity during that period of time, as sweat can prevent the tan from developing evenly on the skin.

3. CAN I USE SELF-TANNER ON MY FACE?

Yes, you can use all Peta Jane self-tanners on your face. Consider applying a small amount of moisturizer to your face before applying the self-tanner to help prevent patchiness. We highly recommend you use our Mist to tan your face as it's an easier application which will lead to a more even tan.

4. HOW CAN I AVOID STREAKING OR PATCHINESS WHEN USING SELF-TANNER?

To avoid streaking or patchiness when using self-tanner, be sure to exfoliate your skin before applying the product. This will help to remove any dead cells that might cause patchiness. Additionally, use a mitt to apply the self-tanner, and be sure to blend the product into your skin using circular motions. Finally, allow the self-tanner to dry completely before getting dressed, and avoid sweating or getting wet for at least 6-8 hours after application.

5. HOW CAN I REMOVE SELF-TANNER IF IT TURNS OUT TOO DARK OR UNEVEN?

If your self-tanner turns out too dark or uneven, you can try exfoliating your skin with a gentle scrub to help remove some of the product. You can also try using a product specifically designed to remove self-tanner. Be gentle to avoid damaging your skin.

6. HOW CAN I MAKE MY SELF-TANNER LAST LONGER?

To make your self-tanner last longer, be sure to moisturize your skin daily to help maintain the color. You can also try using a self-tanner specifically designed to extend the life of your tan, or you can try using a tan-extending moisturizer. Additionally, avoid exfoliating your skin too frequently, as this can remove some of the self-tanner. Remember to pat yourself dry after you shower instead of rubbing. Finally, be sure to protect your skin from the sun to help prevent your tan from fading.

Hello, I just started using your tanner and I’m going on vacation in three weeks and need to know will the tanner come off in chlorine? Also how many days prior to the pool should I apply? Thank you so much!!
